What began 40 years ago as a "fun" thing by a handful of rodeo-loving inmates and employees is now big business.  Proceeds from the Angola Prison Rodeo cover rodeo expenses and supplement the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund which provides for inmate educational and recreational supplies. Historical St. John Bayou Paddle

A sub-district of Mid-City, St. John Bayou boasts beautiful homes and gardens along the waterways that weave in and out of this historical district. First used for navigation by natives, the bayou became an important portage during the colonial era before becoming the legendary site of many a voodoo ritual by famed priestess Marie Laveau. Today the banks of Bayou St. John are an important meeting place for the Mardi Gras Indians. Join us on a guided paddle through history and pit-stop at the Parkway Tavern, a place to meet and eat.
